  • "Lovely boat, need ticketing improvement"

Lovely modern boat from Naxos to Mykonos, airconditioned, comfortable, spotless. Baggage storage a bit of a free for all but it worked. Only gripe is that tickets are not emailed, only the confirmation. So arrive Naxos port to find a (small) bit of paper saying you need to walk 300m to a ticketing shop, pay 1 Euro to get your ticket printed, and walk back. This seems unnecessary grit (especially as you have luggage with you) - why not just email a printable ticket, or a mobile one?

Santorini (Thira) Guide

Located in the southern Aegean Sea is the Greek island of Santorini and lies around 200 km to the south east of the Greek mainland. It forms part of the Cycladic group of islands and is the only location in Europe to have a hot desert climate. A popular pastime for visitors to Santorini is to take a cruise to the island's three islets, which were created in ancient times during a volcanic eruption. The islets are called Nea Kammeni, Palea Kammeni and Thirassia and provide an excellent vantage point for visitors to see the volcano, being located to the west of the island. The island's capital is Fira and is full of typical Cycladic houses with whitewashed walls, blue domed churches and stepped streets full of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

The island of Santorini has two ports. The main port is Athinios, where all the ferry and commercial boats arrive. There is also the Old Port which is mostly used for cruise ships. From the main port, ferries can be taken to Piraeus, Rafina and to the other islands in the Cyclades. Both conventional and high speed ferries operate on these routes.

Katapola Guide

Amorgos is a Greek island that is part of the Cyclades group of islands and is the closest island to the Dodecanese island group. Due to Amorgos' position opposite the ancient beaches of Ionian towns such as Militos, Alikarnassos and Ephesos, it became one of the first places from which the Ionians passed through to the Cyclades Islands and onto the Greek mainland. A popular attraction on the island is the monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa and is located on the cliffs to the north east of Chora. The monastery was constructed in the early part of the second millennium in order to protect a religious icon that dates back to 812, and is on display inside the monastery.

The island's main harbour is located at Katapola and is also home to the famous church of Katapoliani that was built on the site of an ancient temple that was dedicated to Apollo. From the port there are regular ferry connections to the mainland port of Piraeus with a crossing time of between 7 and 9 hours by conventional ferry, and 4 - 5 hours by high speed ferry. The island also has ferry services to the rest of the Cyclades, the Dodecanese islands and with the island of Astypalaia.
