"Nice ships and staff, but dreadful customer service"
We sailed with Irish Ferries for the first time, from Dover-Calais, and five days later, Calais-Dover. On the outward journey, the ship was 25 minutes late in boarding/departing, but there was an announcement explaining that it was due to an earlier incident. The return journey was on Thursday 17th Feb 2022, the night before Storm Eunice hit the UK. We were advised that check in would CLOSE at Calais 60 minutes before departure, so we arrived two hours before departure, as we'd experienced problems with queues before.
All was fine, and we got through quickly. And then waited... and waited... and waited... our departure time (19.55) came and went, and there was no information from anyone. The info board at Calais proudly told us that P&O was running on time, but nothing about Irish Ferries. The Irish Ferries website said the ferry was "on time" (completely untrue), and their helpline is the same number as their 24-hour pre-recorded info line. I didn't fancy paying £2 per minute to hear an out-of-date message.
Their email doesn't reply, and their Twitter account is only manned from 9am-5pm. I tweeted them anyway, and 24 hours later, have still not had a reply.
To cut a long story short, we boarded 55 minutes late, and there was no apology, no acknowledgement, absolutely nothing.
The ships are nice, and the on-board crew are very polite and helpful - no complaints there - but their customer service is abysmal.
